Compound record
Desmopressin
DDAVP; 1-deamino-8-D-arginine vasopressin
Sequence
Mpr-YFQNC(D-Arg)G-NH2 (disulfide Mpr1–Cys6); 1-deamino-8-D-Arg-vasopressin
YFQNCPRG
Length counts residues; formula and mass are the stored free-base values from cited sources; CAS and PubChem identify the substance in public registries. More detail: length & peptide bonds, molecular weight
Structure & modifications
Nine-residue tocin analogue. Sequence field omits the non-canonical N-terminal Mpr; see display notation.
Notes
Desmopressin (DDAVP) is a designed AVP analogue: more antidiuretic selectivity, slower clearance, and two deliberate covalent changes from native arginine vasopressin.
Structural redesign
- 1-deamino terminus: Cys1 is replaced by 3-mercaptopropionic acid (Mpr), removing the α-amine.
- D-Arg8: position 8 is the D-enantiomer, improving metabolic stability.
- The Mpr1–Cys6 disulfide and Gly-NH2 are retained.
| Feature | Native AVP | Desmopressin |
|---|---|---|
| N-terminus | Cys (free amine) | Mpr (deamino) |
| Residue 8 | L-Arg | D-Arg |
| Ring | Cys1–Cys6 | Mpr1–Cys6 |
| Average MW (record) | ~1084 | 1069.22 |
Important: the 1-letter field cannot encode Mpr. Trust display notation for stereochemistry and the deamino cap. Pharmacopeial acetates/hydrates are salts of this backbone — not alternate sequences.
